Types of electronic signature in Italy

Simple electronic signature

Valid and freely weighed by the judge (art. 20 of the CAD). Firmiu's audit trail supplies the authorship and integrity evidence the court considers.

Advanced electronic signature (FEA)

Guarantees a unique link to the signer and exclusive control. It satisfies written form for most private contracts.

Qualified signature / firma digitale

With a qualified certificate from a provider overseen by AgID. Mandatory for the acts in article 1350 of the Civil Code (numbers 1–12), such as real-estate contracts.

What makes a signature valid in Italy?
