Types of electronic signature in Costa Rica
Electronic signature
Any electronic mechanism that identifies the signer and binds their intent to the document. Valid between private parties; Firmiu's audit trail documents who signed, when and from where.
Certified digital signature
Issued within the national system led by the DCFD under MICITT, with certificates from the Central Bank hierarchy. It equals a handwritten signature (art. 9, Law 8454) and is required for several government procedures.
