Types of electronic signature in Uruguay

Ordinary electronic signature

Electronic data identifying the signer (Law 18,600). It is valid between private parties; its effectiveness is proven with evidence such as Firmiu's audit trail.

Advanced electronic signature

With a certificate from a provider accredited before the Electronic Certification Unit (AGESIC). It has the same effect as a handwritten signature on public or private documents.

Digital identity card

The Uruguayan ID card includes a chip with certificates enabling advanced electronic signatures. Useful for government procedures; unnecessary for most private contracts.
